LSU New Orleans Transition – Alumni FAQ
Will all graduates of the University of New Orleans, regardless of when they earned their degree, be considered LSU New Orleans alumni?
Yes. If you graduated from the University of New Orleans, whether during its previous time in the LSU System or more recently, you will always be part of the ɫɫÑо¿Ëù alumni family. As the university transitions to LSU New Orleans, that connection continues.
Will alumni be able to request an updated diploma with the new school's name and seal?
No. Diplomas are historical documents and reflect the official name of the university at the time the degree was awarded. Your diploma will always represent the institution exactly as it was when you graduated, which is an important part of the university’s history.
How should alumni list their degree-granting institution on resumes going forward (The University of New Orleans vs. LSU New Orleans)?
Alumni should continue to list the university name that appears on their diploma. If you’d like, you can add the current name in parentheses for clarity.
Example:
BS, Chemistry — University of New Orleans (now LSU New Orleans)
This helps employers recognize both the original institution and its current name.
What name will appear on transcripts and background checks for past graduates and former employees?
Transcripts are official historical records, so they will continue to list the University of New Orleans for degrees earned before the transition.
For clarity moving forward, background checks may list the original name followed by the current name in parentheses: University of New Orleans (now LSU New Orleans)
Will diplomas for May graduates say University of New Orleans or LSU New Orleans?
Diplomas awarded in May will say University of New Orleans, since the transition to LSU New Orleans takes effect July 1, 2026.
Will lifetime alumni email accounts remain active after the transition?
We are currently reviewing alumni email policies to ensure they align with LSU System standards and evolving cybersecurity practices. More information will be shared with alumni as decisions are finalized.
